First repackaged mga drivers v4.4.1 available

Today I finally found the time to repackage the official mga drivers. The new unofficial driver series (v4.4.1) differs from the official version in the following few things:
ChangeLog:
  * Added support for Xorg 7.1 and 7.1.1
  * Introducing the updated-installer from David E. Anderson
  * Put the tarball into a nice installer known from the mtx drivers

Downloads:

Limitations:
When installing these drivers for Xorg 7.1* you still need to add the following section to your "/etc/X11/xorg.conf":
Section "ServerFlags"
  Option "IgnoreABI" "True"
EndSection

I tried your new installer for matrox drivers v 4.4.1 on Ubuntu Edgy Eft (6.10) with Xorg 7.1.1, but it stops and does not install:

Any solution for this problem?
I used your installer for matrox drivers v 4.1 with great success on Ubuntu Dapper (the predecessor with Xorg 7.0) - thanks for your work!

Ups.
Well, the `sudo bash ...` stuff does only work when calling
the install.sh script directly.

I'd suggest to --extract-only the tarball and afterwards
use `sudo bash install.sh` in the extracted directory to
install the driver.

I knew I forgot to add something to this driver release... damn. We discussed this issue once in the forum when the
first user updated to edgy eft which uses dash instead of
bash as default shell /bin/sh.

Thanks again for your work!
Doing as you suggest gives me a working install. I did not notice the options to the script - I should have read it before.
Just as a additional remark: I also get this "ABI does not match" issue which is discussed in the Matrox Forum. I can circumvent the problem by editing gdm.custom-conf with the -ignoreABI switch. Adding a ServerFlags section into xorg.conf does not work here on Ubuntu Edgy Eft with its Xorg 7.1.1.
There are other things not working as before: 3D acceleration or switching from Xserver to console and back were working with Ubuntu Dapper with Xorg 7.0.0 and Matrox Drivers 4.1, but there are problems after the update. I will google around for solutions.

Thanks again

The 3D problem is caused by an incompatibility of the mga driver. Xorg already have patched their driver. I tried to just apply that patch to the 4.4 driver but it was unstable because of the difference between the drivers. The screen would freeze but computer would still be responsive otherwise either remotely or by putting keyboard in raw-mode and do ctrl-alt-del to reboot.

Also I would be very happy to see Pseudo-Xinerama patch merged in the unofficial drivers. I personally used it in a 4.4 driver and it works like a charm. Just I do not have 3D because of the DRI locking bug.

Finally was able to have 3D :) I applied some patches from xorg on the official driver. Had to make a few mods and finally it works. I applied the patches from dec 20, 2005 up to the DRI patch. I did skip one of them because that patch came from Matrox and is already in the official driver.

Would it be time to publish a new version that fixes ubuntu 6.10 and 3D problems, if they are solved and stable?

I'm italian and I'm sorry if my english is very bad.
I have the same problem: a G550 Matrox graphical card and ubuntu 6.10 with Xorg 7.1.1, but I'm not able like Alex.
So I also hope in a new version of the driver.
Thank a lot.

After extracting the tarball and running `sudo bash install.sh` I do not get a working config. For some reason the mga driver loads then unloads. Here's the log file:

I have the ignoreABI option and it still does not work. I am using KDE. When I try "X -ignoreABI" I do get the dual screens, but I need kdm to work.

Thanks in advance

Solution for KDE with these drivers

Edit /kdmrc Mine was located at /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc
Find ServerArgsLocal and uncomment it.
The new line should be "ServerArgsLocal=-ignoreABI"
